Winston is a cute male dog that is approximately 3 years old and weighs between 30-35 pounds. He's sweet and affectionate with lots of personality.
He is a friendly and playful dog that LOVES to romp in the fenced backyard of his foster home and especially enjoys playing with a tennis ball. He gets along with calm, well mannered dogs, but is frightened and reactive towards nervous or hyper dogs. He would do best in a quiet home, preferably adults only or older children.
Winston is up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped. He is crate trained and housetrained. He is used to going outside in the yard several times a day.
Winston was abandoned by his former owner and faced a very uncertain future before Safe Hounds took him in. He is shy with strangers but warms up very quickly once he's given a chance. He is very fearful of the road and cars and gets very panicky when we try to walk him on/near our street, which is a quiet with hardly any traffic. His behavior may be the result of a past traumatic experience that made him fearful, but unfortunately, we don't know why he reacts this way. Being afraid of the road and cars/traffic isn't the worst thing in the world for a dog, but it does mean that his adopter MUST have a fenced yard or suitable alternate place to exercise him on a leash and allow him to take care of business, though it might take him some time to get used to. It is possible that time and patience will help him overcome his fear of the road, but he will need an understanding handler willing to go very slowly and work with him.
Winston is truly a sweet dog that would be a wonderful companion. He just needs the right person to call his own. He is one of the many dogs available for adoption through our rescue. Like every dog he deserves a loving, forever home.
IMPORTANT: Safe Hounds Beagle Rescue does not operate a shelter where the public can meet our dogs. All of our Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved to adopt. Once an applicant is approved, we'll begin a matching process--the right dog for the right home. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be approved. Please visit our web page: www.safehounds.com <http://www.safehounds.com> to learn more about the adoption process and to download our adoption application.
